Hi guys, maybe someone has an idea or ideas????
i have just got back online through some freak of nature? the computer went **** up yesterday.....first i lost my three months old 52x cd-rom writer (lite on) it refused to recognise any disks installed, then i put my old 32x speed (lite on writer )back into it and the LS120 floppy disk went **** up makeing an horendos noise and cableing got hot, so i dissconnected that and then the computer hung and wouldnt boot beyond the windows is loading window (xp) so i went into bios and the LT!") was dissabled (im assuming it did it automaticaly as i didnt do it and it has always worked before???) then i tried my 120 gig drive thaqts been playing up for around a month now and that wont respond at all now (only 2 months old) and i have a forty% packet loss online through my adsl card running at 1.1meg does anyone out there know if it may be my mother board thats blasting the hell out of my hardware or is it a coincidence that all this is going on together????? i have a lex 2.0 gig pentium 4 with a half gig of ram installed (sd ram) nvida 5600xt graphics card sound blaster audity 2 surround sound card dvd 8x writer pioneer 32x lite on cd rom writer (was 52x) phillips monitor that wont shut down without hitting the button on the front (thats been doing that before i put in the mother board i have now but that would be good to find out why thats happening too) many thanks in advance, i may not get the replys due to maybe not getting it up and running again but i hope i can, cheers Graham.

The power supply may be at fault. It may be overvolting on the rails causing the hot wires and noises, but I cant explain the crappy net.

The other possibility is the motherboard, are you that much of a nerd you have a spare P4 motherboard to try?

A program like motherboard monitor or speedfan will help you test the psu.

nope, but i have a p3 450htz but the board is of a different size and wont fit this tower, the lex board i use (1 yr old) was not reputed to be a good board when i got it but they said it should be ok, but its all i could afford at the time, now i just bought a new car well just two yrs old last week so moneys gone again for now, if i was to get a new board it would have to be a p4 3gig with ahalf gig ram at the least of ddr ram (i only have sdram half gig) on p4 lex so its not the best or the quickest, in the time i have been on line today the connection has gone down every few minutes, i dont think its the connection with the internet providers or routers i believe its my computer thats dropping the line and reconnecting all the time, i tell you mate its driving me nuts, i only just re formatted the dam thing twice and installed new hard drives and cd roms and dvd writers only to find just as i was getting back to right that the whole thing just coughs out on me, computers? whoed have one ....lol |sad1|
