Although not MMO related, I just bought a Warhammer 40k tabletop beginner set (£12 - paints and 3 minitures) to paint with the kids. Looks like great fun! I might buy a full beginner set (http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.uk?do=Individual&code=60010199002&orignav=10) for them if they like the idea.

Yeah steph I was thinking of the same thing, I may have a crack at the table top version before the MMO comes out in the new year.

For the kids! Your supposed to say your buying it for the kids! *cough* |bigsmile|
They have all the missions for the beginner set here (http://macragge.us.games-workshop.com/scenarios/default.htm) in PDF. Does look like good fun (for the kids)

Pretty fun game and the battles can last hours, too bad it is that expensive, you quickly spend a real fortune on this building a kick ass army

I played my son yesterday. Almost got the Macragge set painted (if you can call it that - a 5 & 7 year old painting them makes it look like war in a paint factory) My eldest seems to like it though and constantly beats me. Damn loaded dice.
Orks! Thats the side I like the most. Again though, already ploughed about £50 into it so it is very expensive for what could well be a whim. Also bloody complicated! (well the proper rule set is, the Macragge mission book trims it all down nicely)

yeh the real rules take quite a while to learn I don't think I ever got around to really playing a proper game with them didn't have much time to spare to really have a proper game tbh. Its really nice to see a a full painted army though :) and if u look online some of the converts people make sum amazing pieces for their army. The only convert I did was cut up on of my Spare Marines nicked the rocket launcher and stuck it on 1 of my orkz =p

If you enjoy playing them or even just the act of painting the Miniatures and getting them to look decent then it's not a waste of money imo.
If you want to get a good game and learn how to play it then maybe it'd be an idea take your stuff to the local Games Workshop, ours used to be full of guys every Saturday and I'd imagine you'd learn a great deal off the long-time players.
Personally I've never owned any of it or played it but the figures and stuff have cracking detail, if I had money to burn I'd love to get them just for Figurine value.
