Sup peeps,

Anyone (Darkie??) know any good utilities for pushing your graphics card to the max, to test its upper temperature threshhold? I remember a util called Toast for doing the processor which worked really well. Is there an alternative for GFX card?

Cheers,
JT

For GFX 3D Mark 2003 on repeat 3D benchmarks cooks them nicely.

CPU's Prime95 or try a few SETI unit's

Actually, while yer hangin around Darkie, my shuttle decided to go a bit wierd the other day. UT2004 would crash after about 2 or 3 minutes in the game (on any resolution and detail setting).

I changed the nVidia control panel slider bar to be in the middle of performance and quality (cant remember the setting) and maxed out all the settings in UT, and it seemed to stop crashing. What do you think is goin on with that? And whats the oldest drivers that nVidia provide which will work with DX9.0b?

Ok, i'll |shutup| now...

If it's running for a few minutes I belive that it's not likely to be a driver issue and maybe temperature . Try a programe called "speedfan" IIRC it does temperature readings for your HardDrives, CPU, GFX etc.

Also try running it out of the case, maybe consider a bigger fan for the CPU (Vantec Stealth) and a better cooler for the GPU.

Decent spec shuttles often have issues with heat.

But thats the thing tho. Does the performance slider in the nVidia control panel really add that much to the overhead on the card? Cos I can have it in the middle, with all settings maxed out in UT2004 and it doesn't have a problem.

I'll monitor it tonight, but it'd be odd being the temperatute... I cut a hole in the side of my shuttle right over the GFX card (so it could breathe). Processor has never had a problem in the past.

I'm unsure... I'm an ATI user. I cant see it making much difference, at a guess the slider will only control the number of pipes used at any one time on the card.

I'll read some more about it this afternoon.

Oooo Oooo Flame bait!!!

O.T - Forum Q - The posters detail's bar to the left of everyone's post... how'd you make it there and not along the top? A few VB3 board owners are unsure how to do it and when it's along the top it looks wrong.

Yeah, in the admin control panel, under Style & Language Settings there is an option to Use Legacy (Vertical) Postbit Template. This is what you're looking for I think.
