Okay its a New day and a new beta.

You enter the game in your own private instance. The first thing you notice is the atmosphere and man have they got that spot on. I actualy felt like I was in a tolkien town. The instance takes you through the controls and a mini adventure. where you get your first part of the epic quest to help the hobbits get the ring to morder.

http://img83.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot00000sn2.jpg

Once you have finished with that. you enter a town now depending on race, you can play as Dwarf, Elf, Man, Hobbit you basically start in there respective areas. I am currently playing a Man out of Bree.

Now you start doing some quests while some may find it a grind, those especially not intrested in reading or tolkien may not like the whole game, the quests have lose connections to tolkien books and they are a delight to do.

The Maps are pretty big and I have only explored about 1/5 of the current one I am on with about 10 Maps in all.

I hit Bree yesterday and immediately started for the prancing pony noticing the mix of hobbits and humans about the town. I immediately introduced myself to Barlyman who directed me to talk to strider in the back. Strider sent me on a quest to help another ranger kill a wannabe Nazgul.

On a great note this is probably the best quest I have ever taken part in any game ever. I got to talk to strider I had a Ranger help me defeat a Ranger who was slowly turning into a Nazgul. And I visited the old forest and met Tom bombadil. Truly if you have ever enjoyed the books or even the films, I m fairly sure you will love this game. Atm for the sheer atmosphere and magic of the game it is defiantly got the potentional for me to be the best mmo out there.

Now the interface yes like I said it has some wow elements because with over 5 million subscribers wow has obviously got something right. The UI is simple enough that is does nto have you constantly looking at it distracting from the incredible rich atmosphere. This is a good thing.
The music in the game adds a real menace, when I hit the old forest it immediately starting turning a little dark, and I immediately started worrying lots of wolves and bats about. A game that can do this to you at the early stage of beta is pretty amazing.
Grouping is made simple like in DDO you set your LFG flag or do searches on the LFG panel. Grouping also has a element of EQ2 with group chains, Basically each member of the group adds to the chain of attacks hopefully intitating a massive strike or heal.

As for other questions yes it will be pay monthly. there will be advancing storylines that the developers will be adding monthly content and quests to.
Sometimes when you complete a instance you will come out and see the world has changed around you. Someone has to pay for the work of the devs. Very little is instanced so there will be people around fighting with you to hold back the darkness. Also the devs are working on opening up other areas of middle earth.

As for release I am not sure when it will be released. It could be around march or possibly sooner. Turbine are fairly good at getting stuff out the door and have a good track record in making mmorpgs. Anyway I am off to the shire to make friends with some hobbits

Sounds good! Apart from this bit:
Very little is instanced Instancing stops squabbles and big guilds etc from clearing out whole areas at a time so I'm a big fan of them. Might be fine at first, but i'd guess without instances it'll not be much fun unless they've found a clever way around this?

You lucky,lucky man.

A lifelong fan of Tolkiens literary genius and member of the Tolkien Society and can I get a beta pass? Can I fook..|sadeyes|

I've been bigging up this title for quite some time to the WoW boys and girls and now I feel vindicated.I hope to see a few more {BA} join the kinship, but nevertheless I'll be there regardless,no more fps for me I feel.

I'm still checking my email every hour, looking for that elusive invite, but it seems unlikely now.Oh how long I have desired to look upon the kings of old,my kin..........

All I am going to say is I am not touching MMO's until Stargate Worlds is released. I am actually half tempted by this but I know if I start an MMO theres no turning back, so I am going to wait until the one I am going to be interested in the most...

No it's not,it's from the 'black speach' of Mordor (considered to be a *******isation of the languages of Morgoth prior to the third age).

You knows it,isn't it?

Couple of points to clarify, the epic storyline quest you are on throught out the game I guess is mainly instanced so np with hordes of people kiling or doing your thing.

As for the normal quests atm the stuff spawns so quick that you never have to wait for anything, but it does add to the danger which is good.

Next round of beta invites won't be out till next year sorry Hooters. And yes lifelong fan here I nearly pushed my mate off of a cliff to get this invite :)

On a good note I visited weathertop last night and omg it is huge, majestic and spot on, totally overwhelming and frankly the whole game is worth it for that. I also ran into a nuzgul that scared the **** out of me luckily he never saw me being a lowly lvl 18 Loremaster a lvl 50 elite Nazgul is going to hurt.

Going to try to see if I can get to Rivendale tonight but apparently it is a very dangerous journey.

No screenshots of this I looked at them and they just don't give weathertop justice sorry you will have to wait :/

Ok,so I'm in with a lowly chance next year, but I'll be more than happy to push mates of cliffs if it means an invite sooner. In the meantime i'm going to keep reading your reviews, not being in any way jealous and will continue to test my own patience by not pushing YOU off a ciff and hoiking your beta, you git.

Been a while since I spent anytime in this beta, So I thought I would have another look since I have given up wow.

I decided to make a ElF Hunter ( i know very boring) in deference to the naming i went with Lestil as I kinda hate to spoil the enviroment of the game, I was utterly shocked when I got in the graphics have improved and the gameplay is awesome. It seems so grown up compared to wow. Okay there is no pvp but you kinda get immersed in the storyline. I got to level 6 with no breaks and had so much fun doing it, plus I only died onc, although there were a few close calls.

And man the environment, lush, beautiful, mesmerising. This has defiantly got me hooked again. Although still trying not to play it as want to play it probably when it comes out.

The water in the last pic looks awesome, can't say im too impressed by the UI though (almost exactly the same as WoW but i just don't like the look of it)

Lestat
7th March 2007, 18:03
The thing is the UI worked in wow and i works in this, its probably going to be the standard for UIs for many years :)

Its slightly more unobtrusive tho. and you tend to use your keys as the old mouse clicking can be difficult on such small buttons.

Not really I just think that this MMO could be ruined by fools easily. No l33t speak and sensible middle earth names to start with.

But then since there is no pvp will keep most kiddies away :)

If you correct me, you will suffer abuse for admitting to being a "hacksaw".
