If you turned the xbox into a media centre & stick a 120GB HDD in (I think that the largest you can stick in isnt it?) is there anyway to run TV through it and pause it etc? Presuming not as it only has a single scart so I presume you can't really pass stuff 'through' it (inless you can use the inputs & outputs of a single scart lead at the same time??)

There isn't an upper limit for harddisk size in a modded xbox. Just depends what type of chip you use, and what version of bios.
I agree tho - original XBOX makes an awesome media center.

JT why use chip?.
If you Softmod it, u dont open the xbox case (so when u **** up u can return it and get ya money back), U just install some software and its the same as a chipped Xbox.

I know theres no limit, but I hear that if you start going any bigger than 120GB you start getting heat problems etc?

Nah, doubt it very much. I got a 180 in my one.

Softmod won't allow everything that a chip will allow. Besides, I've never ****ed up chipping a console yet. Plus, softmod wasn't around when I did mine.

mine is also still working with 180 gig and chip works as a treat
never had any problems with it accept that sharon tried to play online what caused the xbox to install microshaft os instead of custom dash

Bought an xbox Thursday & spent half yesterday turning it into a media-centre. I chipped it, flashed it & created an evox bootdisc etc. Then once i had it sorted I chose this as my dashboard:
http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/
Really nice dash. I love that it streams or plays from CD's DVD's (doesn't need the DVD remote), Divx films & any sort of AVI or MPG (hell it can even play a movie directly from an .ISO!!) It will also stream my MP3 collection, and it has access to like 500 internet radio stations (it can show a winamp type swirly pattern background whilst it plays music too). I can view all my photos (I have the screensaver set to my photo collection) and you can get a 5 day weather forecast from it!
All in all I spent £68 on the xbox (with 9 games) from ebay, then £20 for the modchip. The 250GB HDD was free from work (ahhh the perks of working in I.T.!!) and i'm spending time today backup up all our games onto it. So i've got a Media Center / games machine that has access to about 700GB of media for £80 which seems quite reasonable. The only thing thats missing is pausing live TV, but I don't watch telly anyway.

Nope! Where'd I get that from?
Just finished loading up & testing a Sega Genesis emulator for it - NeoGenesis. Works like an absolute dream! Actually works better than my origional Genesis did as you can save games & modify keys. I now have my 50 or so Genesis ROM's sitting on it. Ahh takes me back a few years that does |afro|
