Ello folks,

Here's a tool which I found linked from the Punkbuster website. It basically allows you to close all non-essential windows programs running without having to do them all one by one - so you can be sure no background processes are running while your game is!

it's pretty cool.

You kindof just use it as and when you're gonna play games. All it does, is close all processes that are not needed for windows to survive. most of the system tray stuff and suchlike.

There are two options when you run it (icons on the menu bar)....

1. Close all : this will try to close (as windows would) all programs that are non-essential

2. Kill all : this will force close all programs which are non essential.

It shows you down the left hand side what can and can't be closed - but it's just a convenient way to make sure nothing is running which may disrupt your game.

Does this improve game performance? I do have fps issues and wondererd if this could help do a temp fix until I get a new board?

Just curious. How olds you windows install? - And how are you idling @ 182mb? - I'm closer to 128 idle on a 4 month old install.

I'm presuming that your using Win XP?

I've got XP on my shuttle for games only - cos thats all it can handle. XP hasn't got the balls to stay up long enough to do REAL work on a PC. It hasn't got the multi-tasking power to open notepad more than once. In short m8, its for kids.

Windows 2000 is a real mans operating system (if only it booted quicker!!)

Actually, I haven't tried Linux at home - but I did get a copy of Redhat and Virtual PC, so I may give it a go.

For the record, my extra memory is taken up by a few progs, such as-

Seti
SetiQ
Gaypad software
Object Dock

Was causing an issue when I had only 512 Mb but its not anymore since I upgraded.

just as a point of view ...if anyone has KaZaA v2.5 installed and have connected prior to surfing, if you right click the icon and select close, it appears to close but it aint.....just a trick put in the program to make you believe its closed, you have to open the task manager and close the task in there.....this can eat memory and give you lag and a high ping, .....just a thought for anyone that has it? |devil2|

I wonder if thats the same in Kazaa lite? I dont use any of them anyway... too much corporate interference.

KaZa is a dirty piece of software at the best of times, make sure you run Ad-aware regular with that herr line.
