For those interested (prob none of you), I finally bought a new TFT. I sropped the idea of a 1600x1200 resolution as they are simply not fast enough, and far to heavy to carry to the lans.

So I went for this (http://products.sony.co.uk/productdetail.asp?id=10_160_4434) bad boy.

£580 all in...

Fantastic specs! - Not bad at all for £580.

You happy with the change?

Don't know yet m8, will be here in 1 - 2 weeks.

Its got a very low response time (16ms) so I am very happy. I was going to get a Dell 20.1" but I tried one in work and it didn't feel right.

On another note, anyone looking a TFT for lans and can wait... have a look at this (http://www.samsung.com/Products/Monitor/LCDMonitor/Monitor_LCDMonitor_172X.htm) . Its only a 17" but its supposed to be the best for gaming. Pefect match for a Shuttle...

Now then, now then... Does anyone have dual monitors running, one for gaming the other for whatever ? Does it impact on the cards performance at all?

I WAS running a dual monitor setup in work, using a 64Mb dell card, and previously using a 32Mb card (when they where still reasonable).

I had 2 x 21" Dell Triniton monitors running at 2x 1600 x 1200. SOOOOOO GOOOOODDDDDD.

But it did balls some games up. You set a grahics card as the "primary", then the second as secondary and so on. Sometime some games would get confused and the screen would get screwed up.

But a friend of mne was able to get a game running on one screen and have Outlook on the other. He could not interact with Outlook but he could watch his mails coming in. Handy in the workplace.

But for home use I would invest in one, bigger monitor.

In game, as far I I know, you can NOT interact with the second monitor screen, it simply gets turned off in most cases.

I used to run a dual 21" monitor setup... then we moved and I didnt have the space anymore.

I was using a dual head Ti4200 and never had any problems with games etc.

I had it configured so that the first monitor displayed the game and the second TS/RW so that I knew who was talking/joining/removing my admin ;) etc... back in that day TS/RW codec's where shite.

These day's I use a 19" Dell P991 with Sony Trinitron tube.

I used to have one screen running my Websphere Application Studio (needs alot of real-estate) and my other monitor running my server consoles and email.... your putting me back in the mood for it...

(Plague goes hunting Liberty's building for a spare 21")

Another use was 3D Studio Max. The program on one, and the billion tool bar's/ buttons on the other.

I need my space back :(

a 21" lcd monitor is too heavy?
the monitor I carry aint exactly a lightweight model

It was more practicality... when flying to the lans my maximum baggage weight is 30Kg.... the Dell monitors are 25. The Sony one is something like 12 or 13 Kg....

How did that monitor turn out for you anyay? Was it worth the money, cos I'm thinkin bout getting a 19" monitor for designing at home. I got 17" TFT at the moment, but there's a big difference from a design point of view.

How did it work out?

They where sent the wrong one by accident, the "H" series was delivered instead of the "X" series, dbig difference in quality. Should get the right one tomorrow.

I got it last night, I have to say I am bloody impressed.

The picture is extremely sharp and clear, excellant clarity. There is a bit of shadowing in high resolution games such as CoD when you are moving fast, which takes a bit of getting used to, but thats to be expected. I tried a friends 19" Samsung SyncMaster and it gave me a headache after 10 mins, so I am glad the Sony is alot better.

Its still quite heavy but I think its managable on a plane (roll on Jan lan). It also has an interesting option of "modes". You have "Game", "Movie" & "PC"... so you can customise the settings depending on the application. 1 x DVI and 2 x RGB are handy for those with multiple PC's.

I would not go any higher on a tft at the moment as I dont think they would suit fast paced games. On less graphically advanced games (Desert Combat, Halo) you don't notice a thing.

NOTE: max resolution is 1280 x 1024 so those looking to upgrade for real estate are better going for something that runs 1600 x 1200, but the fastest response time I could find was 25+ms)

Overall it gets 9.5 plaguey-points out of 10.
